Ephiphany

I would like to talk about a big feast that all French people keep.

Epiphany is a Christian feast day which celebrates the "shining forth". The feast corresponds to jesus' presentation to the Kings.

The feast falls on January 6th in France. In general, people eat a big flat cake with a broad bean in it. Sometimes some people collect this bean and they put it on a shelf in the living room.

Usually, people see their family during this festival and so you can spend time with them. The aim of this game is to find the broad bean, so, when you eat a part of this big flat cake, you hope that the broad bean is into your part. Often with the flat cake, you must drink something.
After, when you find the borad bean you have a paper crown on your head and so you are the King or the Queen of the day.

In the south of france, people don't prepare a flat cake but a brioche, which is similar to a crown, called "Frangipane".

Often, people can eat the flat cake for one week, between the first of January and the 6th of January.
